Family Corner
Our librarian places ongoing book orders throughout the year based on teacher suggestions and student feedback. We try to strike a balance between books that connect to classroom content and books that students will pick up to read for fun! If you or your child have a book recommendation, please feel free to share your ideas with Mrs. Amundson.
We also accept donations of gently used children's books from local families. If your children have books they are no longer using at home, we would love to consider them for our library collection. In general, we prefer recently published titles (within the last 10-15 years) that are in excellent or like-new condition. Contact Mrs. Amundson for more information about book donations.

Can you suggest some books for my child?
At school we use kid-safe search engines (see above) as well as online filtering software. If you have questions about how to implement some of these tools in your home, please contact Mrs. Amundson. In addition, Common Sense Media provides a wealth of information for parents about everything from cyberbullying to cell phone parenting.
The Range View library teaches online safety lessons to students at all grade levels, every year. Here are some digital citizenship videos that may serve as a good starting point for discussions with your children.

While Google can be a very useful tool, it does take practice and experience to use successfully. If your child seems to be struggling with research on Google, you may wish to redirect your child to some of these kid-friendly search tools:
-
World Book Online - username: wizards, password: windsor
-
KidRex - filtered, kid-safe search results
-
KidsClick! - basic tool, best for more general topics
What research websites do you suggest for student projects?
All students, PK through 5th grade, check out books with their class. Your child's teacher can provide specific information about individual class schedules. We do not assess late fees, but we do ask that students bring back their books before checking out new ones. If a book is lost or damaged, the replacement cost can be paid in cash or check (written to Range View Elementary).
Students can also visit the library independently to check out books. They can ask their teacher for permission to visit the library individually, as long as a staff member is present in the library.
