5th Grade

We learn to use credible websites written by experts (people with special skills or training in a subject area).

Here's the slide show that starts us off: Name That Expert!

Then, we explore weather websites and determine whether the authors of each page are experts.

We have also been practicing this skill with websites that connect to our SIP research topics. Click here to see the chart we have been using.

We can use a WHOIS LOOKUP tool to help us find information about website owners and authors. Here's another possible lookup tool.

For the Where We Are in Place & Time unit, we participate in collaborative book groups.

We explore the amazing wordless book, The Arrival, by Shaun Tan.

STEP 1: Choose related keywords.

Type in your topic. What other words are connected?

STEP 2: Explore websites ending in .edu & .org.

Type your topic/keywords into this search tool.

We learn there are six different ways to take action.

In order to explore these different types of action, we explore stories of people taking action.

Welcome to the library, fifth grade students!

Fifth grade students visit the library once per week to check out books. Specific schedules are available through classroom teachers.

Our librarian, Mrs. Amundson, also collaborates with the fifth grade team to provide unit resources, develop unit projects, and co-teach unit inquiry/research activities.

Please stop by the library any time - families are always welcome!
