2nd Grade

Central Idea: People express themselves to share ideas and solve differences.

 

In this unit, we reflect on problems and how to solve them.

Central Idea: Decisions take planning and thought which affect ourselves and others.

 

In this unit, we reflect on the steps people take to reach their goals.

Central Idea: Perspective impacts settlement.

 

In this unit, we add onto our makerspace projects from How We Organize Ourselves and create settlements.

We also collaborate with Clearview Library District to explore historic newspapers describing the perspectives about settlement in our area.

​

Central Idea: Resources affect the decisions people make.

 

In this unit, we do a class makerspace project and build a large collaborative map filled with resources.

Second grade students visit the library once per week to check out books. Specific schedules are available through classroom teachers.
 
Our librarian, Mrs. Amundson, also collaborates with the second grade team to provide unit resources, develop unit projects, and co-teach unit inquiry/research activities.

Central Idea: Variables affect the survival of organisms.

 

In this unit, we research the habitat & adaptations of individual animals.

​

Some of our favorite books to use for animal research include:

Central Idea: Understanding the laws of force and motion allow people to strategize how they work with the world around them. 

 

In this unit, we are exploring the concept of innovation. How do people come up with new ideas? How do new ideas make things better?
